Artist's Statement:
A house is the one basic human need we all recognize. It's the place we hang our hat, sleep and eat when we're not out in the world somewhere. It may be temporary or for the rest of our lives. It may be a 25-room mansion or a simple tarpaper shack. From opulant to simple, each house is home for someone. And everyone needs a home.
A house may be an investment - a factor made notorious by the recent mortgage crisis. It can be an expression of who we are, so we landscape, decorate or renovate our homes to fit our needs and show what we want to say about ourselves. Impeccible or trashed, each house is a unique thumbprint of the people that live in it.
I want to someday build a house of my own design, so houses gradually morphed into personal symbols of my creative potential. Painting and sculpting the houses in this exhibit is my way of inching closer to that goal. I have yet to build my dream home, but I'm building many of them with my art.
Due to both the nature of people's tastes in art and houses, plus my own eclectic approach, house art is an excellent fit.

About Ceramic House Sculptures
There are many types of ceramic houses in the art and collectables market. I began creating these sculptures only after extensive research on ceramic houses that are currently available. My pieces are unique in may ways:
• Each one is slab-built by hand using a 1/4 inch porcelain slab for the base, walls and roof. No two are alike and no sculpture will be repeated as seen. Other collectable houses are usually from molds and hundreds - if not thousands - are in the market.
• The sculptures are based on my own sketches or photographs and also paintings from the 2d part of this exhibit. They're created to simply be enjoyed as art as I did not want to make yet more banks, tealight holders, nightlights or incense burners.
• Hand-painting is carefully applied with colors which best enhance the sculptures' architetural era and/or style. The painting style is done in three ways: Careful painted details, overall dye or splattered. Some combinations of the three exist as well.
Please email me if you would like an exclusive model of your own house created.
Please Note: All sizes are in inches.
These pieces are not weatherproof.
